Under A.Ridge is an ongoing series of drawings; learning, imagining, and imaging the ancient glacial movements that have since been paved over. a study informed by construction, responding to the elevation changes that dictate and delineate (there are signs). semi-synthetic organics, plastic preservation of materials. ¿why wrap a rock in plastic?, ask “what lasts”...
written in stone; drawn with graphite, a sculpture through materiality, and a death collage from the organic (pasts); of wood, plastic, and chalk… a full course meal.
a high flat horizon line connects this series’ drawings; throughways, streets, and sidewalks. graded for inhabitance and designed for design. abstract landscapes, carved by a preoccupation for the self, explored here is the gladial in its responsiveness back towards nature.

A.Ridge is meant to refer to Alameda Ridge here in portland, I recently got a job further north and I have to ride my bike up the giant hill this ridge creates.
there must be something in the air, because when I was finishing #2, my local neighborhood newspaper (star news) had a little article (page 10 june 2025) on what this ridge looked like in 1913. In fact the image provided in the article is from same perspective view that inspired by for the left section of #0.
I’ve since been using this historical research by Doug Walker to inform my next pieces for the series: the gravel mining and dump that the city of portland had created. I’ll post or link to them when I make something I’m prouder of.
